Snowboard Music

The Ultimate Snowboard Movie Soundtrack

The Snowboard Asylum are currently running a competition to win £250 worth of snowboarding goodies if you can correctly identify every song in there

Chris Cracknell – chalet owner, prolific Whitelines comment board keyboard warrior and 6ft Stereo DJ – just sent us in this rad mix of snowboard film tunes from the pre-digital age, so this’ll be for the riders that still remember the days of getting the season’s latest VHS through the post then.

If you were at the Absinthe premiere last week you will have heard this already, but it also made its way onto his monthly radio show. There’s some absolute classics in here that’ll conjure up memories of shred flicks past.

We won’t name any of the tracks for you just yet because (a) that’ll spoil the fun, but also (b) The Snowboard Asylum are currently running a competition to win £250 worth of snowboarding goodies if you can correctly identify every song in there.

It’s an awesome listen so get those cans on, have a blast and maybe even win some free stuff. Yeah!

In Chris’ own words:

“The idea for the mix came after Shannon from the TSA asked me to play the premier for Heavy Mental back in July. I have been out of the snowboarding ‘scene’ for a while and wanted to do something special. My set had Glastonbury had gone down well and there was a couple of snowboard tunes in there, so I thought it would be fun, and a challenge to put together a set of classic tunes from classic shred movies.

I had some ideas of my own, but put it out on FB to get some input and interest rolling, this gave me a list of over a hundred songs, which I then Youtube’d to check out ones I hadn’t heard before. Some of these also where from more recent films which I didn’t feel fitted, the songs had to be from a certain era, one that, I guess, was just about pre internet, where films, when you get them, would be watched again and again, the soundtracks becoming the soundtrack to your life.

All the tracks on here are part of the soundtrack of my life from the age of seventeen through to about thirty, each is either a great song, or was from a seminal movie or was just a straight up banging section.

Playing it at a club with a banging sound system meant that I wanted really high quality versions of all the songs, so I hammered Discogs pretty hard to find the right versions of all the songs on vinyl, which is still my medium of choice for my podcast.

It has been so fun putting this together, I have already been asked when Vol 2 is coming, so I’ll have to start digging again!

I hope that it brings back happy shred memories for anyone that listens to it.”
