Inside Track: Chamonix

The two best post-riding hangouts are the aforementioned Rhodo, and Elevation. The Rhodo has plenty of outdoor seating for when it gets warm, while Elevation is on the route back from the Aguille du Midi train, so head there if you want to hang out with the extreme crew and talk about what you’ve been up to that day – but don’t forget your harness and ice axe.

Elevation; the Chamonix local’s hangout.

If you want a mellow evening drink with the local Brit crew, the Vagabond is a good spot. For something a bit more lively head to the Rue de Moulins, Chamonix’s oldest street where you’ll find array of bars. The Mixbar is a bit more upmarket, but they do some mean cocktails if you’ve got the budget. For a good late night dance, move across the street to the Soulfood. It’s run by Gaby, a local snowboarder with an addiction to old funk and soul vinyl, and has the best atmosphere in town. There are a couple of cheesy clubs too – Le Garage has been there for over twenty years and won’t fail to deliver euro pop and bad dancing.
