Terje Haakonsen

The man, the myth, the legend. Widely recognised as the greatest snowboarder ever to strap in, Terje bestrode the sport like a colossus, winning every contest going. He famously boycotted the 1998 Nagano Olympics (where many people viewed him as a shoe-in for the halfpipe gold) over the decision to hand control of the event to the International Ski Federation (FIS), helping to found the TTR and the Arctic Challenge as an alternative. Although he's long since retired from most competitions, many still view Terje as (as one Burton ad campaign put it) "snowboarding's conscience."
